Back to School Storytime

It's back to school time. For some of our regular storytime attendees that may mean starting kindergarten or preschool.  Along with the excitement of being a big kid going to school, there may be some fears and nerves.  The library has wide selection of back to school books to help prepare your child for the first, and parenting books to help you on that first day as well.

Opening Song: The More We Get Together
*We sing and clap to our opening song.  All Stillwater Public Library story times start with this song and the children learn that song means story time is starting.

The more we get together
Together, together
The more we get together
The happier we'll be
Cause your friends are my friends
And my friends are your friends
The more we get together
The happier we'll be.

Book: Pete the Cat Rocking in My School Shoes by Eric Litwin
Hear the song at: http://www.harpercollinschildrens.com/feature/petethecat/

Song: If You Like to Come to School (sung to: If You're Happy and You Know It)
If you like to come to school, raise your hand.
If you like to come to school, raise your hand.
If you like to come to school,
If you like to come to school,

If you like to come to school, raise your hand.

If you think school is cool, raise your hand...

Book:Teacher! Sharing, Helping, Caring by Patricia Hubbell

Fingerplay: Ready for School
Two little house closed up tight,
(Fists closed up tight, thumbs in)
Let's open up the windows and let in some light.
(Make finger circles)
Ten little finger people tall and straight,
(Hold fingers erect)
Ready for the bus at half-past eight
(Fingers run to catch bus)

Book: Llama, llama Misses Mama by Anna Dewdney

Song: Mary Had a Little Lamb

Mary had a little lamb,
Little lamb, little lamb,
Mary had a little lamb,
Its fleece was white as snow

Everywhere that Mary went,
Mary went, Mary went,
Everywhere that Mary went
The lamb was sure to go

It followed her to school one day
School one day, school one day
It followed her to school one day
Which was against the rules.

It made the children laugh and play,
Laugh and play, laugh and play,
It made the children laugh and play
To see a lamb at school

Craft:  Mary Had a Little Lamb
On a piece of paper is the scene of school house with "Mary" and on a craft stick is the picture of lamb which can follow Mary to school.
