Grandparents Day

Grandparents Day is celebrated on September 8th this year.  Make sure you remember to tell all the grandparents and adopted grandparents in you and your children's lives just how grand they are each and every day!

Opening Song: The More We Get Together
*We sing and clap to our opening song.  All Stillwater Public Library story times start with this song and the children learn that song means story time is starting.

The more we get together
Together, together
The more we get together
The happier we'll be
Cause your friends are my friends
And my friends are your friends
The more we get together
The happier we'll be.

Book: Piglet & Granny by Margaret Wild

And here is Grandpa's Hat (join hands at finger tips and place on head)
And here's the way he folds his arms (fold arms)
And takes a little nap (snore)

Here are Grandma's Spectacles (make circle with thumbs and index fingers and hold over eyes)
And here is Grandma's Hat (make triangle by putting two hands fingertips touching over head)
And here's the way she folds her hands
And puts them in her lap (fold hands and put in lap)

Book: The Napping House by Audrey Wood

Poem: The World's Greatest Grandparents
This is the perfect time to say
that I'm so glad to have
grandparents like you.
When I'm near you
I can feel your love,
when I'm away from you
I miss you very much.
Surely you must be
the greatest grandparents
in the whole wide world.
I love you so very much!

Manners Storytime

Manners can be tricky to teach young children especially as certain behaviors are allowed one setting but discouraged in another setting.  However, there are plenty of humorous and lively books that make learning manners fun.
As a reminder we ask that children visiting the library use soft/inside voices, only walking feet, and respect the books and computers while having fun!

Opening Song: The More We Get Together
*We sing and clap to our opening song.  All Stillwater Public Library story times start with this song and the children learn that song means story time is starting.

The more we get together
Together, together
The more we get together
The happier we'll be
Cause your friends are my friends
And my friends are your friends
The more we get together
The happier we'll be.

Book: Time to say "Please!" by Mo Willems

Song: Manners (sung to I'm a Little Teapot)
I have super manners. Yes, I do.
I can say "Please," and "Thank you," too.
When I play with friends, I like to share.
That's the way I show I care!

Book: The Bear Who Shared by Catherine Rayner

Song: Share your toys (sung to Row, row, row, your boat)
Share, share, share your toys,
share them with your friends
It's so much fun to share your toys,
sharing has no end.

Book: Nobunny's Perfect by Anna Dewdney

Craft: We made the "Keys to Manner" by coloring out keys that listed out some key words to know: Thank you, You are welcome, Please, and Excuse me.

Back to School Storytime

It's back to school time. For some of our regular storytime attendees that may mean starting kindergarten or preschool.  Along with the excitement of being a big kid going to school, there may be some fears and nerves.  The library has wide selection of back to school books to help prepare your child for the first, and parenting books to help you on that first day as well.

Opening Song: The More We Get Together
*We sing and clap to our opening song.  All Stillwater Public Library story times start with this song and the children learn that song means story time is starting.

The more we get together
Together, together
The more we get together
The happier we'll be
Cause your friends are my friends
And my friends are your friends
The more we get together
The happier we'll be.

Book: Pete the Cat Rocking in My School Shoes by Eric Litwin
Hear the song at: http://www.harpercollinschildrens.com/feature/petethecat/

Song: If You Like to Come to School (sung to: If You're Happy and You Know It)
If you like to come to school, raise your hand.
If you like to come to school, raise your hand.
If you like to come to school,
If you like to come to school,

If you like to come to school, raise your hand.

If you think school is cool, raise your hand...

Book:Teacher! Sharing, Helping, Caring by Patricia Hubbell

Fingerplay: Ready for School
Two little house closed up tight,
(Fists closed up tight, thumbs in)
Let's open up the windows and let in some light.
(Make finger circles)
Ten little finger people tall and straight,
(Hold fingers erect)
Ready for the bus at half-past eight
(Fingers run to catch bus)

Book: Llama, llama Misses Mama by Anna Dewdney

Song: Mary Had a Little Lamb

Mary had a little lamb,
Little lamb, little lamb,
Mary had a little lamb,
Its fleece was white as snow

Everywhere that Mary went,
Mary went, Mary went,
Everywhere that Mary went
The lamb was sure to go

It followed her to school one day
School one day, school one day
It followed her to school one day
Which was against the rules.

It made the children laugh and play,
Laugh and play, laugh and play,
It made the children laugh and play
To see a lamb at school

Craft:  Mary Had a Little Lamb
On a piece of paper is the scene of school house with "Mary" and on a craft stick is the picture of lamb which can follow Mary to school.
